Pillar Point Surf School is located in the bay area, in the coastal town of Half Moon Bay. We have a permit to legally operate within the city limits. Our staff are knowledgeable surfers who know the coastside well, providing a safe, exciting, and most importantly a fun experience.Open year-round, we provide experienced instructors, surfboards, and wetsuits based on request.
Janeene Wilkinson is the new owner for Pillar Point Surf School. The previous owner Matt Wilkinson will continue to oversee the business as a manager. Matt has many years of teaching experience in the bay area. Since 2014, he has decided to expand his teaching from the classroom to the Pacific Ocean. Being a Coastside resident for over 30 years he knows how to customize your surfing experience to make it most enjoyable. In addition his 31 years of surfing experience will help you stand up in no time.

Eric Nelson
Eric has been an Instructor for the Pillar Point Surf School each summer for 8 years. As a surfer with over 40+years of surfing experience, he will provide students with the most practical surfing safety tips.
With his infectious attitude, he will get students stoked on surfing.
Eric is best known for his filming of the big wave known as Mavericks here in Half Moon Bay. The production company he films for, Powerlines Productions has produced numerous documentaries.
He has a heart and soul to serve and enjoys sharing interesting stories of living on the Coastside. He will get you stoked on surfing and soon you’ll be saying his catchphrase, “Living the Dream!”
Molly Schoberl
Molly grew up surfing and playing in the ocean on the East Coast before moving to California with her family during high school. She loves everything about the ocean and is passionate about cleaning up the coasts so future generations can enjoy it the same way she has. During the year Molly is a college student at Humboldt State University earning her bachelor’s degree in social work. She hopes to earn her masters in social work as well before joining the field and working in palliative care social work. At school, Molly is also the director of the Environmental Education club and is the captain of the Women’s Crew Team. This will be Mollys 7th summer working with Matt and the rest of the Pillar Point Surf Camp team!
Matt Hachey
Matt Hachey was born and raised in Half Moon Bay. He has surfed all over California, Mexico, and Hawaii.
When he’s not laying Drywall you’re find him surfing up and down the coast looking for the best waves. Matt’s 30 years of surfing experience will help you learn the basics safely and quickly. Having a local guide will enhance your surfing experience.
Ryan
Ryan is the quintessential California surfer. He is well known in the area and is one of the nicest guys you’ll meet. Ryan has been surfing over 25 years and knows how to create the best surfing experience. Ryan has been working with Pillar Point Surf School for over 5 years. Ryan is a 2nd generation Half Moon Bay native, his dad Cal is a legend in the area as well. Let Ryan’s local knowledge of the Jetty help you score the best surfing conditions.
Josue
Josue Chang is a Peruvian surfer and coach that moved to San Francisco 3 years ago. Prior to moving to SF, he worked as a surf coach for several years in Peru. In addition to being a surf instructor, he works at a restaurant and enjoys surfing Ocean Beach. He is passionate about sharing the love of surfing with the world. This is Josue’s 3rd year working with Pillar Point Surf School.
